Duties
The incumbent operates safely and efficiently an unarmored U.S. Government-owned or leased motor vehicle to transport passengers and/or cargo. Works as messenger as directed.
As one of several motor pool chauffeurs, receives work assignments from the Dispatcher to transport State and/or other Agency personnel or cargo.
Operates Embassy vehicles in the transportation of official visitors in support of U.S. Government’s official activities.
Assumes duty driver responsibility on a rotational basis. Incumbent may be required to make trips that require out-of-town stays.
Maintains vehicle in a clean and serviceable condition, to include cleaning the interior and exterior of the vehicle. Performs basic vehicle inspection in accordance with established schedules and policies.
Prepares trip reports, vehicle use and fuel logs. Estimates fuel consumption for trips.
Safeguards U.S. Government property and uses U.S. Government resources efficiently, including the fuel-efficient operation of vehicles.
May drive armored vehicles, as needed.
Handles cash up to $1,000 and/or handle government fuel credit card for vehicle with $300 limit.
Provides driver support for the Ambassador or DCM in the absence of their regularly assigned chauffeurs, as directed.

- Experience:
At least three years of professional driving experience is required.
Language:
English level: Limited knowledge Reading/Writing/Speaking is required.
French level: Good Working Knowledge/Writing/Speaking is required.
Job Knowledge:
Mission’s protocol procedures as it relates to the Front Office. State Department vehicle safety standards. Motor pool rules and regulations. Knowledge of the location of other Missions, host Government institutions, and NGOs. Knowledge of local traffic laws and regulations. Knowledge of in-country travel routes and areas. General awareness of the general political climate in the country related to protests, demonstrations, and riots
Skills And Abilities:
Must hold a valid and legally obtained driver’s license. Operates level C or D armored vehicle with defensive driving skills. Must be able to diagnose and handle preventive maintenance and first-echelon automotive repairs. Ability to detect vehicle defects and report them immediately to authorities concerned. Must quickly and calmly evaluate risks and alternative actions always assuring the maximum safety of the passengers. Must be able to deal with high level officials in a relaxed and competent manner. Must have basic computer skills to maintain reports and for communication purposes.
