Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated, flexible, organized, and detail oriented Linux/Unix System Administrator to join our great team. This position oversees bioinformatics linux system design, installation, and management; prescribes disaster recovery plans and designs the internal services and procedures required to carry them out; promotes staff training and development; and is responsible for general system administration and service quality management.
Responsibilities:
Designs, plans, implements, and administers all servers, virtual servers, key application services, storage area networks, and backup systems in consultation with the operations manager.
Reviews, monitors, and optimizes the operational status of all servers, virtual servers, application services, storage area networks, and backup systems and advises the operations manager of such status; directs server- and storage-related administrative matters; ensures that the corresponding service level agreements are met or exceeded.
Responsible for the regular backup of all user data on the network, for ensuring that backups are complete within the allotted window, and that the data on the network is secure.
Ensures that alerting system is working 99.9% of time for all servers.
Researches and coordinates the implementation of new or enhanced services; authors and edits hardware/software specifications and procurement orders, operating environment standards, work instructions and procedures, and disaster recovery and other incident response plans.
Assembles, edits, formats, writes, publishes, and presents white papers covering information technology service management in international biomedical research and clinical care environments.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field with at least five years experience administering servers, storage array networks, and backup systems in a large, geographically diverse environment; or an Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field with a minimum of ten years experience in enterprise-level server, storage, and backup management
Requires advanced expertise in installing, configuring, upgrading, monitoring, and maintaining Linux/Unix servers in a Microsoft Active Directory environment.
Requires advanced knowledge of PC-based server hardware, NFS- and iSCSI-based storage area networks, and enterprise backup systems; direct experience specifying, building, installing, configuring, upgrading, monitoring, and maintaining linux Servers.
Must demonstrate a basic understanding of the operation and configuration of the Internet Protocol suite.
Any of the following certifications preferred: Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), CompTIA Linux, or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
Fluency in French is an advantage.
Must have great customer service and interfacing with customers experience required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience with computational biology and bioinformatics applications
