Stromme Foundation (SF) is a non-governmental organisation based on Christian values, whose vision is to eradicate poverty. SF supports people who are willing to work to get a better future. Working through partners who share its vision, SF facilitates efforts to cross the poverty line. Its work is concentrated in four regions: South Asia, East Africa, West Africa and South America. The regional offices are located in Colombo in Sri Lanka, Kampala in Uganda, Bamako in Mali and Lima in Peru. Today SF supports more than 130 projects in 18 countries. The head office is situated in Kristiansand on the southern coast of Norway, and has about 30 employees. The Secretary General heads the organisation.
The West Africa Region
SFs activities in West Africa are concentrated in Mali, with projects in Mauritania, Burkina Faso and Northern Ivory Coast. In 2006 SF expects to support about 30 projects in West Africa, providing about 2 million USD in grants and loans. Education accounts for over 70% of the West Africa budget, with microfinance taking up the remainder. The regional office is in Bamako, Mali.
The role of the regional director
Responsible for SFs work in West Africa
Lead and be responsible for the personnel
Responsible for planning, budgeting and reporting
Develop and implement regional/country strategies
Responsible for developing partnership, networking, co-ordination and co-operation
Establish and sustain contact with the governments, UN and other international and national NGOs.
The profile of the Regional Director
Strømme is looking for a leader with a proven record of success in managing poverty eradication programmes. Other requirements are:
Relevant higher education
Experience in administration, leadership, programming and financial management
Experience in working with partners and networking
Good cultural understanding and effective communication
Conviction in teamwork and ability to lead and work in a team
Ability to withstand stress and demanding situations
Good command of written and spoken English and French
Experience in sectors of (i) Education, and (ii) Microfinance is desirable
The candidate selected to lead SFs West Africa region should actively identify with the Christian values that SF professes.
