Somika exploration would like to undertake a drilling campaign as part of its prefeasibility study on its Kalana Property in the Southern part of Mali, West Africa, 350km south of Bamako. This drilling campaign would consist of 12,000m of RC drilling and 2,000m of Diamond drilling above and around the operating underground mine.
Somika exploration would like to start the job around September 20th 2014 with the RC drilling; Diamond drilling should start around mid-October.
RC drilling will consist of 80 holes with depth ranging between 41m and 230m (mean depth= 150m, 6 holes exceeding 200m). Drilling will take place mainly on the mine area with rig move from one line to another not exceeding 2km. Drilling dip will be comprised between -58° and -70°. Dip-azimuth survey will be taken every 30m (with possible more frequent survey (each 6m) when holes may intersect underground excavations). Somika exploration insists that drill samples are as dry as possible.
Diamond drilling will consist of 19 holes with depth ranging between 70m and 210m (mean depth of 108m). Multi-purpose rig will not fit for the job as some drilling platforms will be in wetland. A lighter rig will be necessary to reach drilling pads. Somika wants to drill PQ diameter in the Saprolite-Saprock (between 40m and 110m deep) and HQ diameter in the fresh rock. No core orientation will be required for this job but Dip-Azimuth will be surveyed every 30m (with possible more survey when entering underground excavations). Hexagonal cobar would be preferred to better control drilling trajectory.
Water for diamond drilling will be supplied from a surface storage dam. Furthest hole would be 500m away from the water source.
