Duties

Position operates, repairs and maintains refrigeration, air-conditioning and heating equipment on the embassy compound. Inspects, operates, maintains and makes repairs to refrigeration or air-conditioning units and ancillary equipment within the embassy compound. Ensures that all related equipment is functioning properly. Responds to trouble calls and troubleshoots cooling problems with diagnostic equipment, instruments, gauges and pressure/temperature charts of refrigerants; identifies malfunctioning components or improper system settings. Perform refrigerant recovery and reclamation, test lines, components and connections for leaks. Dismantle, remove and replace defective components, e.g. expansion valves, evaporators, compressors, condensers, strainers, damper actuators, variable air volume (VAV) boxes, pumps, fans, motors, etc.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:  Three years of progressive work experiences in the refrigeration and air-conditioning field is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have a thorough knowledge of digital and pneumatic control systems related to building automation; must be knowledgeable of, and adhere to safe work practices.

Education Requirements:

Completion of high school (or host nation equivalent) or technical school required with specialized training and certification as a Refrigeration/HVAC Technician.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE:

Limited Knowledge of English is required– Reasonable confident in speaking English and able to handle social situations and casual conversation and limited work requirements. Able to write simple texts and fill out forms.

This may be tested.

Good Working Knowledge of French is required– Good vocabulary and understanding of grammar and able to construct sentences. Able to use French as part of normal work duties including having conversations with customers and answer questions.

This may be tested.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to read and comprehend HVAC and electrical blueprints and schematics; must be able to use all related power tools, hand tools, measuring devices and instruments pertinent to the trade. Required to climb ladders and work in high places and/or constricted spaces. Must have a valid drivers’ license and basic computer skills.
